We order blood and saliva tests. Saliva tests are advantages in cases when we want to monitor your body's level of a certain hormone over a period of a day or even a month. Stress hormones vary during a day and female hormones vary during the month. So a one shot blood test gives us where your levels are at when they drew the sample from you. However, saliva allows us to gather samples from you throughout the day or through out the month. That gives us how your hormone levels are during the whole period we are measuring. That is a more accurate, non-invasive way of measuring the biologically active fraction of steroid hormones.
